1.4tdi 105 dpf regen?

Featured Replies

I noticed yesterday on my 6.5 mile round trip to work the cooling fan was on full speed as soon as the temp gauge got to around 50 & the temp sat at 90 & never went any higher & the oil temp was low 90s, the car was sat for just over 8 hours & the fan kicked in as soon as I started up, I also noticed it was idling at 1000 rpm & the same happened this morning on my way to work but then the fan cut out & the oil temp dropped a bit & the idle was lower & its been fine since.

I was worried it was an issue with the water pump but the car hasn't overheated once, called the dealer I bought it from & he told me the car was recalled & had been sorted for the cooling issue, he seemed to think it could be the dpf doing a regen but wasn't too sure.

Is this normal regen behaviour or could there be something wrong?

If it's idling at just under 1k then it's doing a regen.

Not sure if only doing 6.5miles a day will ever actually mean the regen is completed successfully.

Rich, nice choice of car. They are brilliant. However, as abaxas says...your mileage to work and back is very very low for a modern diesel. It is doubtful that it will ever do a proper regen and you may end up with some dpf issues. These diesels need a real good run on a regular basis for them to operate properly and keep the dpf clean. It does indeed sound as though you engine is 'regenerating' all the time at the moment. Take it for a much longer hot run and see if it returns to normal.

I should mention it does go on a longish run about 2 or 3 times a week, so it's not just pottering up & down to work all the time.

That's good Rich. Make sure to use the performance on a regular basis once the motor is hot and I mean hot not just the engine coolant at working temp, but oil at 85c plus for a sustained period of miles. Use the revs, don't rely on just the torque at low revs. Modern diesels need revs to keep them clean. You cannot hurt it. Enjoy! They are great cars...
