What is it with so many guys that they feel the need to stir a gear box! The DSG box changes gear in 0.3 seconds and if you want to you can use it in a manual mode. So when you are sitting in a traffic jam (again and again) with your left leg going up and down like a drowning swimmer tell me that the man in a DSG equipped car is "less of a man"!

Come on folks this is 2006 and manual transmissions are sooooo last century.

No I probably can't change gear in 0.3 of a second, but it changes when "I" want it to.

My left leg generally goes up and down when I'm walking too

I tried the DSG before I ordered my manual and I just couldn't get on with it!

Whereas I loved the tiptronic in the A3 that was great!

It just didnt feel right in the Skoda or in the Altea which I tested either.

Every time I come home from driving rental cars in the US I swear my next car will be auto and there is always a "reason" why it isn't [not cost]. Either the model I wanted didn't exist with auto, (Cavalier SRi, Primera GT etc] or something with a new manual version had come out.

Didn't much like my Octy Mk 1 vRS gearbox [ the only thing I didn't like] so thought I'd get Mk 2 with auto until salesman showed me the Mk 2's 6-speed box - chalk and cheese to the Mk. 1 - no auto again! Maybe next time!!

No ESP?

Just be careful. That peaky 2.0 TDi engine is a handful. I'd have written my motor off by now without ESP. Glad i got those side airbags too.

Seen plenty of that over here - and plenty of slim Americans - but food is so blinking cheap there!
