Saxo is dead...Old Skool is cool

Featured Replies

Saw a client this morning who owns a 'visual' performance shop (metal fuel caps/lexus lights/bodykits) and general sporty enhancements (exhausts, suspension, brakes etc).

Saxo was his bread and butter. Not anymore....total market shift he tells me.

Lots of Escort I and II's.80's stuff in the form of sierras.Apparantly becoming quite a big thing.

Is it just here the saxo is dead? I like early escorts:cool:

Saw a Mk1 Golf GTI convertible on the way into work today, with a set of the 'P' alloys on. I well love them!!!

Surely there aren't that many about now?

From the 70s/80s, I like the

Mk1-2 Escort RSs

Chevette HSR

Opel Monza 3.0

Mk2 Cavalier SRi

Rover SD1 Vitesse

Lotus Sunbeam

Triumph Dolomite Sprint

BMW 2002

Most likely due to the fact they are not seen as much anymore, so just having one is "cool" plus they may fall into classic insurance which is cheaper is it not?

I'm not over keen on the idea of spotty x-paxo drivers owning escorts mk1 & 2 as they really are classics  they have the uncanny skill to wreak cars!

My mates mk1 RS2000.

OMG im dribbling.

Thats my fav car of all time, very clean looking example.

Ive owned an RS (red) and a Mexico (white) many moons ago, I would love to own one again but alass I dont have the cash or the space.

That RS2000 is class.

Don't know if it's still on sale but there is/was a magazine for this sort of stuff: Retro Cars.

Full of old stylee cars with more modern mechanicals shoved in there for the hell of it. Pretty good if you're into that sort of thing, and even if you're not; buy a classic rust bucket now and put it into storage, as if they're becoming trendy the prices will rocket! Just look at how much people now pay for mk1 Golf sheds as an example.....

My mates mk1 RS2000.

what are the specs on this sort of thing?

engine, 0-60 , max speed etc?

how much bought new? (1980's?)

Hey MK1 Golfs are Not Sheds! Go and have a word with yerself!

I'm not saying the styling of the car is a shed, I owned one for a good few years way back when. I'm saying people pay good money for shed examples. Shed is an old motor trader term for a car in bad condition (and way back when I was once a motor trader of sorts).

Mk1 Golf is still the best car ever in my rose tinted eyes. Despite the fact my 'careful lady owner' example was the most unreliable car I ever had!!!

Its a 2 litre pinto engine, I think its 100bhp. 0-60 in about 8.5 - 9 secs top end will be around 115mph. I can't remember what it cost when new in 1973 but my mate has all the documentation and has spoken to the bloke who bought it brand new.

It was restored last year by a company in Essex.

Now.... You see I thought You were calling all Mk1's Sheds!!! I view them through the same Rose tinted eyes as you do:P

Plus they're is never anything bad to say about Corrado's

By modern standards they're not super fast, but 30-odd years of development counts for a lot!

They were relatively quick off the mark as they didn't weigh anything! Safety features? Air con? What are they?

This is my lasty MK1 Escort, 205BHP @ wheels, LSD Awesome track car. Just bought and finished doing a yellow road biased one, very similar but with RS rolltops, Quaife rear axle and 7" wide superlites

Alex, that is one stunning car!

Nice.

That car port looks like one of those advertised in the back of Lancashire Life. Come to think think of it, the house looks like one that would feature in the front of it!
