Hard wiring a dashcam

Featured Replies

If anyone wants to hard wire their dashcam, Amazon has a selection of simple to use kits.  I chose  https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07CF7P84V/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and fitted it in half an hour then probably another half hour to tidy the wires away. It has a selection of 3 different piggyback fuses, a transformer, a torpedo fuse holder, and a reasonable amount of cable. When ordering there is a choice of mini or micro USB connectors.

Watch out for these, I installed one in my car but realised that after 6 months of use, the dashcam started playing up. It turned out that the voltage converter gives 5V at 2A and my dashcam requires 5V at 3A to work properly. Mine came with a cigarette lighter plug and I'm going to replace this kit with a lighter socket mounted in the drivers side panel beneath the A pillar. Use fuse #40, rear wiper as it is switched off when you turn the engine off.
