My 2008 1.4tdi needs a new gearbox bearing. I've been quoted £180 plus parts for the benchwork to strip and rebuild the gearbox.

 

I bought the car as a project, so plan to take the box out myself, if at all possible, which leads to my question : is it a job that can reasonably be done using axle-stands and a trolley jack?
