VAG COM question

Featured Replies

From reading some of the posts I get the impression VAG COM is a piece of software that you can use on a laptop.

A few questions, for those that have the software, if you don't mind.

1. Can VAG COM be purchased? If so how much is it? If it can't be purchased (I suspect this is the case - VAG don't want all their customers to do our own diagnostics and lose business!) how have the people that have got a copy of it managed to get hold of it? Has anyone, er... 'found' this software on the net?

2. What type of cable does it need to connect the PC to the car? Is it a serial cable or something simple that can be purchased anywhere, or a specialised type for connection (at the car)?

3. I guess VAG COM is just a single .exe file on your PC once installed?

4. Assuming #3, above, is a correct statement...What is the filename of this exe file and how big is it? Mb or Kb?

Thanks!

www.ross-tech.com is (from memory) the web site you need. All is on there.

Basically you need a Laptop, a VAG-COM lead which can either cost a few quid or quite a few quid depending on where you get it, and the software which can be downloaded free in basic form, or you can pay a license for a better version.

I have none of the above though!

Got our serial cable off ebay for £25. Downloaded the software "from the internet". Do a few searches or try p2p.
