Loads of faults after fitting Canbus trailer wiring kit.

Featured Replies

I've fitted a PF Jones OEM style trailer wiring kit that runs directly off Canbus rather than tapping into the wires to individual lights.

Up front it has a power supply wire, a fog light wire and 3 canbus connections that tap into wires that go to the white and black canbus plugs under the steering column. They supplied scotch blocks for this and it's a really tight space with very little wire to work with so I stripped some insulation off the wires and soldered the new tappings in.

When I reconnected the battery a series of fault messages appeared: no tyre sensors, no stability control and the radio code had completely reset and was in German.

The indicators and central locking don't work. The engine runs, the brake lights, reversing lights, headlights etc all work fine.

I then snipped the three tappings into the Canbus to see if that system would revert but all the faults still remained.

I'm going to visit the local specialist tomorrow to talk coding. I'm struggling to see what else could be going on.

I found this

" If the ignition recode doesnt work then stick the key in the door (when the car is locked). Press and hold the unlock button on the fob whilst turning the key to unlock. Keep it held for a second longer. The red light in the door know should start flashing and thats i recoding. If it still doesnt work then i'd suggest a reboot of the ECU:

Disconnect battery
Leave for 90 seconds.
Reconnect battery.
Recode stereo and date/time.

Done!

If still unsuccesfull, then they obvious battery change in the fob may be the answer. Fobs very rarely fail so dont be drawn in by the stealers. "

Good news update! I phoned up PF Jones and their technical help told me to take the canbus conenctor apart and check that all pins were in correctly. I did that (fiddly job in the limited space) and the faults have all gone. Good news.
