Firestone Roadhawk/Bridgestone Turanza T005 vs CPC5/GY EffGripPerformance 16"?

Featured Replies

As stated in the title, looking for advices based on experience.

Reading few very positive review of the new Bridgestone T005 decided to gve it chance. Then came into the info that Firestone RoadHawk is the same tyre for less money.

The other optios are Conti Premium 5 and GoodYear EffGrip Performance. Both with rim protection, not like the first two.

I'm looking to a safer tyre to replace my 'OK'-ish Continental Eco 5.

Usually drive and change tyres every 3-4 years or around 40k km max.

I'm reading very mutually excluding reviews on tyrereviews.co.uk from the best to the worst for each one I check :)

Any comments are welcome! Thanks!

You may well have bought tyres by now but I can share info on the Bridgestones and Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance.

The Bridgestones are very hard wearing, we have just replaced the original ones on the rear of our 2010 Octy estate at 70k! They still had 4.5mm left. They were the originals based on the date of tyre manufacture and were well over recommended 6yr limit. They were like hard plastic bands. They were on the front of the car, again originals when bought at 30k. These were replaced as they were awful in the wet with the Goodyears. The good years have worn through and now need replacing again (yet the Bridgestones on the rear are still going).

The Goodyears offer a great balance of grip, economy and performance albeit they are on a 1.6tdi so nothing special.

Albeit all our fleet run these and they are very good at high speed on higher powered cars too so can highly recommend them.

As the Goodyears were worn and the Bridgestones needed to be replaced due to now being well past 6year date and like plastic bands all four were replaced with Avon ZV7's.

This due to the fact they were cheap, £180 for 4 fitted (205/55/16) and I had previously had the ZV5's on a warm diesel hatch and thought they were 'decent enough'. And the fact they were only going on a 1.6tdi meant it was a good option both financially and for safety.

Can't comment on the other options you've had but if you have "eco" branded tyres regardless of manufacturer you should see an improvement in grip particularly in the wet if you go with any of the mid to high branded non eco tyres.
