Poor quality Interior

Featured Replies

Hi,

Has anyone else had any issues with the leather interior?

I've noticed the steering wheel has worn already and also the stitching on the seats has started to fray.

I've only had the car since February and done 5k miles! Seems very poor in my opinion.

Are you sliding over the seats wearing things like jeans? Anything that could catch the stitching?

In any case, that's not fair wear and tear, so I'd be getting Skoda to sort that out under warranty. Apart from needing a good hoover, mine is still looking like new and it's not much younger than yours.

No not really. I'm always careful getting in and out of the car.

I'd expect some wear but this seems excessive to me. Especially the steering wheel. That's getting worse by the day!

As with everything fair wear and tear is subjective. Velcro plays havoc with alcantara, zips and buttons can snag on stitching. Some people carry their wallets in their back pockets. Some clip their keys to their belts. Sequins on ladies tops can cut into the material. Larger built people or those with reduced mobility often have to slide over the seat. Outdoor clothing, mucky clothing, wet clothing. Low mileage or vehicle age can't be the sole measure either if the driver is in and out of the car repeatedly i.e. making deliveries etc.

I'm not suggesting that is the case here, but some complaints aren't always directly attributable to poor quality.

Saying that, Skoda's seat quality has been questioned quite a bit of late, more so with the more popular models such as the Octavia and Superb.

The steering wheel wear seems strange, it's all in one place; the outer edge.

Do you wear a ring, wedding band or other jewellery and tend to feed the wheel through your hands?

I agree with things catching on the stitching. I should point out the stitching has freed at various points even along the top edge of the seats and also the rear seat which aren't even used.

No I don't wear any rings and I don't hold the steering wheel at the bottom like that anyway. The steering wheels odd... Its almost as if the matt coating is peeling away

I'd be into the dealer and shouting "warranty" and "WTF is this!?" asap.

Best to get the problem raised while it is obvious, especially on the top edge of the seats that aren't used - that freed stitching should make it less easy to shrug off as a wear issue.

Yeah I'll get it booked in. To be honest it's the steering wheel I'm more bothered about. My old Fabias were much better built than this.

Well after a few phone calls and emails Skoda UK have agreed to replace my steering wheel.

Didn't get anywhere with the seats however.

I did try to get a heated wheel for all the hassle but they weren't that keen on the idea! :D

You're not alone...

I think if you check the warranty conditions and exclusions the term is "wear and tear", the word fair is not there.
