Timing belt query?

Featured Replies

Hi I'm due a service on my 1.2 64 plate petrol fabia the garage I rang mentioned a timing belt change may be needed. He needs to see the car to tell if it's a timing belt engine or another kind. Is there anyway I can tell by looking at the engine?? Thanks

All mk ii fabia 1.2 engines are timing chain, no servicing required.

You do have a mkii and not a mkiii?

Thank you and it is a mark 2.

Personally if I rang a garage and they asked me to bring it in so they can see if its chain or belt driven I'd be putting that phone down.

This.

...Depends on the information they were given and who you spoke to. If it is a receptionist, they may not know anyway, which models are chain and which are belt but even a techie, unless they went from computer records from a reg number or were told/asked about the engine size (Not too difficult) Then they should have known. That said, they might have rather YOU did the running around to save them a bit of thinking time. This is just as bad (Or worse) Then them not knowing!
