Sneaky dealers

Featured Replies

So having ordered a Monte with dsg for a decent price they emailed the purchase invoice over

Car is in the UK at another dealer unregistered ATM

£500+ vat delivery

Gap already preloaded

And lifeshine preloaded

£30 std delivery fuel (will it have £30 in it when it arrives )

Annoyed at the gap and lifeshine as I've never bothered with either especially lifeshine as it's the biggest con in the world

Delivery charge seems excessive as they are debating fetching it if no wagon is available somcould potentially have a few hundred miles on when I get it

This is my 4th new car from this dealers and salesman's knows I don't bother with life shine (heck the last two I've told them just to pdi it only and I'll wash it properly when I get it home)

Amazing what a new business manager in the delaership tries to push for commission

Speaking to them tomorrow to get these removed and also about cruise control retrofit

'Lifeshine' on the wifes citigo was equal to a red bag holder of  various Autoglym at £299. There was about £60 to £70 of actual Autoglym products in there, if bought on ebay.

I felt a bit guilty when we bought my wife's new Polo in 2015 and accepted the interior and paint protection, which seems to still be effective almost 3 years on, I do tend to use an Autoglym shampoo on the cars - they did not push the GAP though.  I should really not have felt guilty at all, I must wise up! I was offered and bought the 3 services, 2 minor and 1 major and MOT though, and that seems to have been okay cost wise as I would have just handed the car in for them to service while it was under warranty, after that I'll be doing the servicing myself.

The 'watever they spray on the fabric' thing appears to help, not so the paint protection. That's what wax is for.

We used to sell the stuff back in the day it was diamond brite then pure guard back then

The sales dept would charge Joe public 300

We sold the kits to them at £20 paid a valeted £30 for applying it (if they actually did ) pure profit for.sales team

Anyway they have altered the deal and have thrown them two items (gap and lifeshine) In for free

I am amazed people still fall for this nonsense. Glad you got it sorted.

I recently bought a used Mini Countryman from a  Mini franchise.  AFTER I had negotiated a price, the sales lady said, “Thankyou. I am pleased to advise you that there is a free gift  with your Mini”. ..................It was Mini Protect paint and interior protection shown on the invoice at £299.

Better than a kick in the goolies, but as I said to my wife, worth about fifty quid max.

I have a bad record for buying waxes - and not using them! Even have a half used tin of black polish that these "good old" fabric roof covering needed, well maybe not quite "needed" as it did make a mess of your clothes when you leaned against the roof after being a bit too generous with the black polish!

Malc, go to gapinsurance.co.uk for your eerrrrrh, gap insurance. I was quoted £399 at Skoda but got a policy which in my opinion was better for just £86 for 3 years cover. That price was after a 10% discount. Agree about the Lifeshine. Don't forget the delivery charge is the cost of getting the car from the factory into this country and is unavoidable.

Managed to blag gap for free aswell as the life shine (even though I don't want it )

Delivery charge just seems steep I know it's built in but I'd rather not see the amount

I totally agree, maybe back in the days when we had to pay car tax then VAT on top of that final price it might have saved us 2/6, but really, if they do need to transport cars to dealers then just hide it inside the price as anyone with a brain knows that you are paying delivery on everything you buy even is it claims "postage free"!

Though, if you were lucky enough to have a Fabia factory round the back of your dealership, you would still be paying for that delivery! ("I'll collect it myself!" - "no!")

Edit:- forgetting the fact that they cost a lot more, I wonder if you tick the option to collect your brand new MB at the factory, will they add that delivery charge in, or just pay for your very expensive hotel overnight stay and ferry/chunnel home? I know someone that did that in 2002, he still runs that car, must have been a good one.

They actually charge more to collect a Merc from the factory

As do Porsche at least with Porsche though you can have a free factory tour
