Blind spot detection retrofit

Featured Replies

Hello,

Anyone tried retrofitting blind spot detection on Octavia MK II?

Looks like an easy job to do, modules connects to CAN bus and you need mirror glass with blind spot LED (kinda expensive, thinking maybe add a simple LED in mirror case)

Found a topic here.

Some things to consider:

Use 5Q0907686A/B and 5Q0907685A/B module which have self calibration. (Other modules need calibration, kinda difficult)

Any other info is kindly appreciated.

Thanks,

Irinel

Found wiring diagrams for Golf 7 for Lane Assist and it seems you need Extended CAN.

Connections: T8 - LA 8 pin connector, T20 - CAN 20 pin connector

T8/4 ------- T20/7    - Connection 1 (CAN bus extended low), in main wiring harness

T8/3 ------- T20/17  - Connection 1 (CAN bus extended high), in main wiring harness

That's a Golf Mk7? Mk2 Octavia is same as Mk5/6 Golf.

All if them, Golf MK7, MK6, MK5 use same blind spot detection unit (5Q0907686A/B, 5Q0907685A/B), so I guess they connect same way to CAN.

Plus, the guy on ross-tech forum managed to install these type of units on Octavia MK3

Golf MK7 and Octavia MK3 are both MQB.

You need to make sure they are compatible with PQ35 based cars like a FL Octavia MK2.

You might also need to make changes to the cluster to support it too :-)

It's turned on and off via the cluster and I think there is also a status LED to confirm it's working.

There is probably a warning shown too :)

When I thought this was going to be easy.

I'll keep searching...

Guy from Here says:

"For me, the software is H04 0504 and it will work but only with sensors from mk7 / mk6cabrio."

I have H20 0420 so I might have to change it... hmmm

Update:

If your cluster does not support Side Assist then you cannot enable it. If you're good at soldering here is what you need to do:

@langers2k, I see you have Highend cluster, SW 0608. Does it have a Lane/Side Assist warning lamp?

I've never had it apart to check.

I know the dial faces have the right symbols but I don't think there are LED's fitted.

The guy from link above says, and I quote from google translate:

"if the dashboard does not pass successfully test the chain of the assistant's warning lamp, then the system will not be activated"

So, from what I understand, even if I manage to update cluster it will not work since I don't have the actual LED on the motherboard.
