B&M or Dieslegeek short shifter?

Featured Replies

Recommendations for short shifters for vRS:

B&M or Dieselgeek?

and also which one is easier to fit and has less impact on the life of the transmission?

Dieselgeek sigma six doesn't fit. The left-hand shifter cable mount (left side of the car) on the vRS is off to the car's right hand side when compared to a VW/Audi one. The first cable and the shifter arm fit in perfectly.

Possible solutions are:

weld in an extender to the DG shift bracket (!) or maybe replace the shift mounting on top of the transmission. Otherwise you get 90% fitted perfectly and then you have to revert to the original. And the guy in the states has never seen a vRS trans.(Don't ask me how I know all this......) Bas.

i'm pretty sure i've read that B&M do a short shifter thats designed for the vRS... i could be wrong though, i have slept since reading that...

People on the UK-MKIV's (Golf MK4) forum have fitted the DG item and are very happy with it.

Sorry, I don't know about that one. Maybe if you had a careful look at the relevant parts on a mate's Golf MK4. If they move about EXACTLY like the vRS's then maybe.

The Vrs shift setup I have IS different from the DG sigma 6 kit that I received. The first 90% of the fit is easy but then you realise that the last bracket's engagement is well over to the left (off by about 2 inches!)

That is why several people have had problems fitting it, and IFAIK only Hellfire appears to have fitted it - but he always has a full mailbox!

The B & M is a lovely looking thing.

This is the same for the MK4 Golf

I know that on the Uk Mkiv forum a few have fitted the Dieselgeek.

I do personally like the B & M

Very bling ;)

but is it compatible with the Octavia vRS ? posts above would suggest there are subtle differences in the setup.

I think we need the opinion of Lummox ;)

Thanks, Sarah - thats my mind set against the B&M one ;) DG or Neuspeed are the way to go.

an update guys,

I mailed Jim ( the DG guy) and he told me to confirm the part number for the shift weight. He said if the shift weight is 1J0 711 051D or 1J0 711 051Q then the sigma 5 short shift will fit. So today i hopped over to the the skoda dealer and just as i opened the website to show the guy the part he, told me that the RS has the chrome part with the part number ...51Q. So it'll fit. And also the dealer said he'll do it for me for Rs.2000 ( about 25 pounds).

IIRC the B+M shifter is a replacement lever, quite a labour intensive job to change that.
