Rear end noise over speed bump

Featured Replies

I have a new Skoda Octavia5 Combi 4x4 for a month and a half. Great car all round. I have noticed a knocking noise going over speed bumps (not all the time). It seems to be coming from the back of the car, when the back wheels go over the bump... Anyone heard that noise? It ony has 1900km on it... I will be taking it for a check up this week, so I will see what the people at Skoda say. But was wondering if this is common.

Other than that, I can't get enough of this car! Great to travel with.

Cheers!

Yeah all Octavia's do that, you can hear it more so in the Esates, and even more so in the 4x4's. I'm not sure why I noticed it when I when over a speed bump. The way to make it not do the noise, is to take the speed bump at under 15mph.

My 4x4 does the same over the semi circular speed humps if I go too fast. I put it down to the suspension rebounding especially with the high tyre pressures. Front suspension will do the same not sharp egded bumps.

Check if one or both of the rubbers has fallen off of the boot lid stops. To check, open boot fully and check the top corners of the boot lid. There should be two adjustable plastic stops with a rubber bung on each, mine fell off within the first week.

I can also hear small knocking noise wen crossing bumps - having tens of thousands here in Hungary... I had the suspension checked but nothing was found. Everything was in place, tightly.

Maybe, the boot lid is the source of the noises?

Anyway, they're coming from the direction of rear seats and the lid, not from below the suspension.

My 4x4 does it too, just had to slow down

have you checked the spare wheel and tool box and other odds and ends in the boot? Try a drive with it all emptied out.

Hi again everyone. Thanks for the feedback. I normally take speed bumps really slow, but I will check and see the rubber stops and the extra wheel and tools. I will be taking my Octy for a check up within this week so will let you know of the outcome.

Thanks again.
