tdi Turbo gone?

Featured Replies

My car is now making a loud siren/owl noise on startup when cold.

I'll drive it for a bit (without much power) and, when a bit warmer. A restart will result in much less noise (normal levels for me) and boost.

I'm getting a lot of overboost errors after though (but this is probably a side effect of the car having been kept mostly local for the last few months).

It's had a recent oil and filter change (correct spec oil).

Any thoughts on if it's the turbo or something else that could be cheaper to sort?

@bspman - Black smoke? I once popped a boost pipe and got no power plus lots of black smoke.

@KenONeill - I can't say I've seen any out the back whilst driving, I'm not sure it's the usual popped pipe issue as driving around for a bit then restarting fixes it. The car pulls like normal (until the EML comes on again).

I might see if I can clear the fault codes and see if that helps.

Just closing this off - seems like the boost pipe has been worked a bit loose at the turbo outlet end.

Car has been absolutely fine and pulling well. Ended up getting a mk2 vrs anyway (DSG box needed for less able family members to drive if required).

Now I need to see about shifting the old girl (shame as I really rather prefer her to the mk2).
