I couldn't be much further away, but I still know stuff. Have a look/listen for a popped joint or a cracked hose in the turbo-intercooler-manifold pipes.

Hmm, turbo manifold crack sounds v expensive... I'm hoping it's just carbon build up on the valves. This seems to be a problem in the direct injection engines.

It's much more likely to be in the plastic pipes than the cast iron. It's also the sort of thing you can probably hear and/or see with the hood up and the engine running fast enough to go on boost.
