Colour maxidot dealer / retro fit

Does anyone know if it’s possible to replace a mono trip computer with a colour maxidot? I pick up mine in a few weeks but as it was a stock order I didn’t get chance to specify it. I have one on my Octavia and it’ll feel weird having a superior car in every way apart from a rubbish low res trip computer!

I spoke to a parts guy at the dealership and he just said a flat no - not possible, but that seems a bit odd.

It'll be possible, but not cheap.

You'll need to source the colour display, remove the dash binnacle and code it to the car, a potentially complex and time consuming task.

A main dealer won't want to do this, they're in the business of changing oil and wiper blades at inflated prices. If you find one that will quote it'll likely be deliberatly cost prohibitive in an effort to deter you.

You'll need a specialist, someone who knows how to code the display properly. They're out there but hard to find, mainly due to them being enthusiasts, not businesses. They tend to hangout in the dedicated VCDS forum so you could try asking there. No doubt the components and coding needed will be the same or similar to other more popular Skoda models, such as the MKIII Octavia.

Each to their own but the colour Maxidot transforms the car, I had to have it which forced me down the route of a factory build, probably the best £90 I've spent, but should be standard on car with a £32,000 list price.

I also discovered that there are additional benefits to the colour display above and beyond the simple aesthetics.

My Scout has Front Assist. Speccing the upgraded display unlocks additional features too, such as the visual warning when travelling too close to the car infront at motorway speeds.

The background colour of the display also matches the selected colour of the interior LED light package along all four doors.

Only small benefits but when they all come together they make a bigger impact.

The fact the colour display isn't standard on the Scout is even more bewildering when you consider that the LED interior light package is. A prime example of Skoda UK not properly understanding their own models and their features.
