Mk2 Skoda Scout as a sleeper car with 350bhp+?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've started looking into the idea of getting a sleeper car and this page at FastCar suggests a Mk2 Octavia Scout with the 4wd system - something like this - and tune the 1.8T engine up to 330bhp or beyond - would this be do-able?  I can find stage-3 turbo kits for the 1.8T engine which takes it up to 330bhp - but how to take it further as mentioned by FastCar?

Before I will take the idea seriously, I do have some questions....

  • How fast would the car be (0-60s) with this 330bhp kit?  How quick can I make it go without spending silly money - budget is £10k?
  • How much power the engine & drivetrain can take before it's too much?
  • How well will the car handle if the suspension & brakes are uprated with the good quality stuff?
  • How well will the car handle with this much power?
  • Is there any good sources of information on tuning the 1.8 TFSI engine?
  • Is it a good idea, or is there a better one?
  • Any further suggestions/ideas?

Many thanks for your time!

Ride does improve by this alone, but that's only 1 step in your path.  Wheel arches are filled better, but the turned shoulder clearance is the limiting factor precluding taller/wider fitments.

Welcome to the forum.

Why not just buy a fast petrol Audi quattro of whatever model would take your fancy.  Plenty about for Much Cheapness, & Insure a standard car.

Then if it is not fast enough or handles or brakes well enough tune it. Insure a modified car.

Thanks for the welcome, appreciated.  Now, where's the fun in that?  Audi's are meant to be fast, they're known for that, but no-one will expect a Scout to be faster than they look.

Go to the 'Octavia Project section'  you will find some 'Sleepers' there, and in the 'Superb Project section'.

Maybe best spending money and time on a more reliable engine as a starter.

Christ, that's bad!  What is a more reliable engine?

Thanks for suggestion, will go have a look, much appreciated!

Make sure you get the cam chain tensIoner done on the 1.8 it's going to be my first thing to sort

Not many 1.8's have gone due to the tensioner, afaik, especially the BZB engine and especially in comparison to the vrs' that go bang, but to say either is an unreliable engine based on one part which is easily replaced is a very. very, very long shout.

I’ve got the CDAA I know it’s a potential problem.
