How low is the Superb Combi Sportline?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I live in Finland and I am considering buying a Superb Combi, and specifically the Sportline version because I like the looks of it inside/out.

I have read that the suspension in the Sportline version is few mm lowered (I think 15mm). Do you know if beyond this lowering, there are other elements that bring the car even lower (e.g. additional sporty bumpers at the front mask?).

The reason I am asking is because here in Finland, during winter there is a lot of snow and I would not like to end up with a car that is too low hitting all the time even in small snow bumps.

If the Sportline is not significantly lower than the other versions, I believe I should have no problem. A normal car would have no problem here in the winter (I have a humble Opel Astra of 2005 with normal suspension, not lowered, and I have no problem in the winter with snow bumps). But I believe  there would be a problem with a very low sporty car here with the snow in the winter.

Thank you!

Thank you MartiniB! Good point you make. Indeed I have not thought the impact to the height of the car from the ground due to the optional DCC suspension.

What I am considering to buy is the Superb Sportline with DCC.
My concern is mostly the distance of the mask at the front of the car from the ground.
Would it be high enough to drive over small road bumps without hitting the ground? or e.g. to cross ramps placed before pedestrian zebras without having to go extremely slow (near to 0km/h) or to run over small piles of snow in the winter?

My guess is that the Sportline spoiler in the mask at the front is closer to the ground than the spoiler in other versions of Superb (e.g. L&K). I understand adding the DCC would bring this spoiler even lower. So I do not know if I would have problems driving such a car in the winter here in Finland (where roads are being well cleaned from snow here in the capital area, but there might be some small snow bumps left here and there).

Although I am very attracted to such a setup (Sportline with DCC suspension), I would not like to go for it if indeed I would have to be overcautious and slow down close to 0km/h whenever I see a small bump in the road.

Also I would be interested to know the experience of those having driven a Sportline version (with or without DCC). Do you have frequent hits of your front spoiler on the ground?

Thank you.

I was testing this Superb Sportline earlier this week. I passed a few speedbumps with no issues at all, and i think the ride height is enough for riding in wintertime and on bumpy roads. I live in northern part of Norway and snow is also an issue for me, but im not worried about that at all when considering to buy this car.

yes, in the summer DCC's low sitting isn't problem at all,
but in winter period car's bottom so often catched ice cubes left by other cars.
that were one of two reason why i increased tires height,
from stock 215/55r17 to 225/55r17
second reason were noisy suspension, what not solved :(

as positive side effect
i got more correct values on speedometer -
now it shows only +2 on 100kmh, before were +5

I live in Estonia and have DCC suspension (L&K not Sportsline though but that makes no difference).

Our winters can also be very snowy but I have had no problems whatsoever with DCC. The ride is high enough even on bad snowy roads and even on coutryside gravel roads.

Honestly, I would not consider Superb with DCC to be a very low car .... never even thought about it before ...

Gotta make a side picture then.

How do I find the exact product code of my absorbers? That is not involved asking my dealer.

You are right, engine makes a difference. But then again, I have quite a lot of sound deadening materials and that definately makes it lower as standard. So my car would bot probably be the best comparison for @Eleftherios

Thank you all for the information. I get the understanding that the Superb with DCC (L&K or Sportline) is not too low.

I wish though Skoda would offer this car also in a bit more "off-road"-ish edition. Well, not really off-road (as this is an Estate car), but in a setup that would make it more comfortable and worry-free to drive in a terrain more demanding than normal roads, e.g. a setup like of Opel Insignia Country Tourer (which has higher than standard suspension and protective strips at the edges of the car frame).

Originally (as a happy Open owner), I was very much towards Opel Insignia Country Tourer,  but then I saw also the reviews of Superb Combi (all praising) and got me into thinking among the two (Superb vs Insignia).

Perhaps it may be best if I test drive both of them after few months (I am not in a hurry to buy right now), when we shall have lots of snow here and then make my decision.
