Columbus unit

Featured Replies

Hey all, I’m new to this so if I’ve done sonething wrong let me know

I have a mk2 superb elegance with a Columbus head unit, everything in the car works as it should except the head unit won’t play dvds.

i have tried many different (all genuine and most new) but everything it spits it out saying error but this neve happens with my music cds!

im wondering would this need an update or is it likely to be the dvd drive faulty

any help or opinions are much appreciated and thanks in advance

If you have a Columbus which was original fit in your 2009 car, then it's most likely the dvd drive is ronnied. The old drives in the early units were adequate at best, and have been replaced in newer units with a better version. You could try a dvd lens cleaner but it's not something which is guaranteed to fix it.

Thanks for the reply, kind of what I was expecting to here but never thought to try get a cleaner so that’s the next step.

but failing that would my best option be a newer model one and would it be a straight replacement?

Thanks again for any help

It would be more or less a straight replacement, but there'll possibly be some coding required to make all the current functions work as they should with the new unit. Takes a few minutes with VCDS.
