Little bit disappointed

Featured Replies

A little bit disappointed that Chris Knott couldn't help me today.

I have my Octavia and the Mrs has her Astra with Chris Knott as they've been very competitive, particularly as the Octavia is modified.

I now have a second modified car, an MG ZS, that I wanted a quote for and was told that the insurance company they use doesn't like engine changes, despite it being another K series engine of the same size, just the vvc varient taking power from 120 - 160.

Due to the accompanying modificications I was asked if the car will be used for competition, naturally it will be, but as I explained, it's a road going car and I'm not wanting a policy to cover the competitive use. The events I do have their own policies which provide cover whilst competing, part of the entry fee covers this. The advisor understood this but informed me that the insurance company views it that cars used competitively will get damaged and then people will try to claim it's happened on the road.

Not very impressive and actually quite offensive to be honest as the best drivers I see are those that I compete with and the most damage I've EVER seen within the sport I do is the odd orange mark from rubbing a cone which no one in their right mind is going to try and make a claim for.

Is Chris Knott looking to move away from insuring modified cars or have I picked up the wrong vibe?

Either way, I've gone back to another broker who I've used before and they gave me an excellent quote that was much better than what I was expecting.

Hopefully Chris Knott will still be able to be competitive when it comes to re-insuring my Octavia, which hasn't had an engine change, next year.
