Hi everyone. Probably making another 'cracked record' topic from an inexperienced owner lol. Just looking for opinions on the matter.

 

I have a 2013 105hp 1.2TSI Fabia Monte Carlo Tech this year. After having the warped front brake discs replaced, I noticed it was pulling to the left and giving me a really annoying vibration in the steering wheel at 50mph+.

 

Took it to be investigated and got new console bushes fitted & tracking done after discovering the previous ones had split. It sorted that out briefly and after a month the original symptoms have some back.

I'm probably going backwards in my method, but I've booked it back into where the Fabia was repaired to make sure the bushes are still ok and everything is mechanically sound before focusing on the tyres.

 

I'm guessing the previous owner must've been a elderly lady as she's only changed one tyre at a time (one being a budget brand, two Nexens & one Continental from when the car first rolled off the production line)

If you Google or Search Pulling to the Left.   Fabia Pulling to the left.  Monte Carlo Pulling to the left etc  you will see weeks, months and several years of threads.

 

So from the beginning it was denied, then there was the Warranty changing of the Dunlop Sport Maxx or Continentals to Pirelli Zero Nero to disguise the Pulling to the left.

But some had alignment checks properly carried out, and front adjustments because alignment for Right Hand Drives were wrong from the factory on some cars.

Also the tyres were wrong and not matched by the run out stripes.

 

It was and is Mk2 vRS & Monte Carlos on 205/40 R 17's. and also Polo, Ibiza & A1's as well as others, and some on 215/40 R 17's.

VW Group are an inclusive manufacturers, they can build in the same faults in many vehicles and deny all knowledge of the issues.

Thanks Offski, I'm aiming for getting the tracking redone for free after having it done with the same service centre last month.

 

Tbh I hate having Nexen's & budget tyres on any car. Prefer to use Hankook/Avon since I bought my first Fabia. I'll get shot of the nasty brands of tyre after having the once over done.

Mk3 monte 16 plate  is bang on centre with turanga tyres no mods at all ie you can drive in a straight line middle lane motorway on the flat.

 

my mk2 however has always pulled ever so slightly to the left partly solved using 215's uniroyals, recent mods + potholes have made it worse again (lowering + roll bars)

so again it was back to ATS. ( i go at least once a year)

 

I watched ATS do the manual calibration again last week as computer machine was broke (and it was reset back to 0 degrees 20minutes) its still not perfect.

Was advised need new track rod ends as threads rusty but thats not the cause

 

 

It is likely more than tracking / camber / caster adjusting required, some had the subframe realigned.

A little old lady, who ordered a higher spec variant and thrashed it enough to warp the brakes and wear out so many suspension components? My guess is the Conti is the FIRST replacement and then on in, budget Jobbies! The first one was most likely on advise from a Skoda Techie and they fitted the standard tyre, for a nice profit.

 

The registration document should tell you of any previous owners or at least the amount. If only one, checking the history should be a doddle. The MOT's can also be back checked, these days, online, quite easily so you can see any faults and parts replaced at MOT time. 

 

Now I read your post again, though, nothing suggests the old lady flucked up the discs, etc so it may be YOU, throwing it around and braking like you are trying to do a stoppie!

The warped disc wasn't from me and I've seen discs warp from people riding the brake pedal like a foot rest.

If anything despite being able to carry speed through corners, I'm extremely easy on the pedals. Method I've learnt from Irish road racing.

 

Turns out it was a buckled rim for the vibration and in turn was throwing the tracking out when on the flatpatch. Replacement rim on its way and some better boots to go with them too.

On modern cars i see warped discs because people have a Up!MiiCitigo and they are the worst brake discs on any car, especially as they are 60/75 ps engines.

 

Then where people drive fast or spirited then stop and hold on the brake pedal or the parking brake, 

or maybe are driving with hot brakes then ford a stream.

 

Never seen Warped Fabia Brakes on a Mk2 and seen plenty of them including ones doing sprints, hill climbs, track days and spirited driving.

Usually through overbraking rather then lowering gears when travelling down hill or braking hard and fast. Not seen many ring brakes but have often seen riding clutches. Still, the world is a funny old place and people do funny things and have peculiar habits.
