Engine covers 1.4 TDi

Featured Replies

I have a 2008 1.4 tdi BNM that's missing the engine cover. When I do a search, a number of different designs come up and I've yet to find one that's off a BNM engine.

Does anyone know whether the covers for these engines are interchangeable or whether each variant ( BNS, BNV, etc ) each have their own specific fitment.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think they are different at least to some degree. Might be worth asking a main dealer as I have seen breakers yards selling them, along with other trim/plastic parts, on the bay for perhaps more then new, dealer parts prices! Oh, and the insulation foam will almost certainly be missing or semi-decayed.

Thanks Mrgf. Had a feeling they might be engine specific and it's a good point about the foam probably being decayed. I'll have to bite the bullet and contact our local dealer and get a price off them. Should be good for a laugh, if nothing else!

Thanks again for the reply.

Not all the 1.4 engines had a cover as new. I queried the lack of a cover on my BNM  engine when I checked the PDI when my car (one of the very last mk.1 combis) was new. Also got a 1 previous owner BNM  70hp mk.1hatch with no cover

Thanks PD75. Yes, I contacted the dealer this afternoon and was told exactly that. The BNM engines, for whatever reason,  came without covers. Bit of a bummer as I was hoping it would deaden the tappet rattle somewhat but guess I'll just have to live with it. Not to worry. Thanks again for the reply.

Does the fact they came without one mean they can't find one to fit, though? Have a look at other versions etc and perhaps try VW as they often have the same engine in say, a Polo as  Fabia so they may have fitted the cover to them!

That's a very good point! I'll look into that at the weekend. It's always possible that, as it was the bottom of the range engine, they just never fitted one in any of the ranges but definitely worth looking into. Thanks for suggesting it.
