What happens to 1.4tsi orders?

Featured Replies

My dealer is telling me that if I place an order, I can't order the new 1.5 tsi engine, and I'll be getting the 1.4tsi when its ready in 6? months time. This contradicts other posters- appreciate advice from anyone in same position. Jay

ps. has anyone managed to order any of the new options for MY19 that I spied on the dealers computer screen this morning, such as digital dash for £350 I think (seems good value compared to most options!)

If the dealer said that, its arse backwards.

You cant order the 1.4 Tsi, you can only order the 1.5 Tsi with the new WLTP/RDE approvals (Euro 6d). Its the 1.5 Tsi that could take up to 6 months due to approval delays and demand for the engine.

Any Tsi 1.4 will be pre built stock. If you order a car it will be a 1.5.

Blimey, I can only hope you spoke to the work experience guy or someone from the valeting bay.

The 1.4 TSI went out of production (for good) back in May.

It beggars belief that a franchised Skoda main dealer doesn't know their **** from their elbow. How on earth do they sell cars? Name and shame.

Please, just for me, go and order a 1.4 TSI and record the conversation where he's telling you that is what you'll get. Tell the salesman it is absolutely imperative that you have this engine. Make something up like your dog is allergic to the number 5 or something, and that you'll accept nothing but a 1.4. Then when a 1.5 TSI turns-up, kick-up a massive stink and demand a hefty discount.

Sheesh. I'd love to swap my job for a month, selling Skoda's, purely out of interest to see how hard it actually is.

^^^ As above.

Any 1.4 TSI which is not WLTP Approved would have to have been built before June 1st 2018 if going to be First Registered after the 31st September

so that it was under Derogation Rules.

@Jay78uk welcome to the forum.

Which Dealership does this employee / salesperson work at?

Thanks silver and offski- really helpful. So I'm guessing if they do take my order they will have to provide me a 1.5 whatever the order sheet says. I won't name the dealer as the sales exec there on all other matters was brilliant! Actually, so far I've found everyone in the two skoda dealers I've been to refreshingly friendly and free of BS. But my current car is a 3 series so I've had to tolerate BMW staff for some time... so my bar is set low ;-)

Brilliant but misleading potential customers and actual customers and require further training!

The problem the dealers have, and they have my sympathy here, as SKODA UK are being a real let-down, is that they don't yet have access to the model year 2019 (MY19) pricing and specification changes. This is highly unusual, normally it would be done and dusted by this point in the year, but the WLTP farce that is hurting VAG at the moment is dragging on.

The bottom line is that SKODA UK haven't yet provided their franchised dealer network with pricing, so your dealer has no choice but to quote you on the old 1.4 as it's the only pricing they have. A dangerous game considering it is highly likely the 1.5 will be around £500 more expensive than the outgoing 1.4.

The million dollar question, will the dealers or SKODA UK honour current pricing / quotes when the car finally arrives?

One thing to be absolutely sure of, if you're ordering a factory build it will definitely not be a 1.4.

If we're allowed to feel sorry for the dealers, can we also cut Skoda UK some slack as well? They're not in charge of the WLTP testing etc, so they cannot confirm spec and prices until the Skoda factory (and VAG above them) sort their lives out.

It's all a complete mess, but the dealers and Skoda UK aren't to blame for that mess. What they are to blame for is not having a consistent and as accurate as possible message about what the mess is and how long it will take to sort out. Not wanting to put customers off by telling them they will have to wait 6 months for a car is one thing, but it's far worse to lie to the customer and tell them they can have it in x weeks when there is absolutely no chance of that happening. I'm pretty sure most customers would be understanding about the situation, especially when they go to the VW or SEAT garage and find that they also can't supply any new cars.

They might lose the sale this time around, but the customer may well come back next time for their next car. However, if the customer has been lied to and misled, they're probably going to stay away from VAG for a long time, possibly forever.

I bunched Skoda UK in with Skoda Auto. I understand Skoda UK are only the importers, but given how the UK is leading the way in Skoda's resurgence you'd hope they're very close to HQ.

I'd be surprised if Skoda UK didn't have any visibility of something as serious as this, especially given the potential loss of sales.

There is a chance Skoda Auto and/or the factory are being a little more transparent, and it is Skoda UK trying to mask the issue, which might be contributing to their woeful communication, a thinly veiled effort to keep potential customers hanging on. Bordering on deceitful.
