Featured Replies

Anyone desperate to avoid the WLTP emissions farce and bag the brilliant 1.4 TSI 150PS engine, fully loaded with DSG?

Here you go :D

Last chance to avoid the gasoline particulate filtered 1.5 TSI!

That's cute. You could park it in the back of your Kodiaq 1.4 Tsi....      ;)

Not quite! I test drove an Allspace - its almost the same size as a Kodiaq. Bigger than a Karoq.

As mentioned, it's the Allspace, which is the longer 7-seat version of the regular 5-seat VW Tiguan.

I'm pretty sure the Kodiaq is built off the Allspace platform and should be almost identical in size?

You aren't wrong, I also hadn't noted it was an Allspace. I had a look at an Allspace here - the 3rd row of seats was even tighter than the Kodiaq.  I also didn't like the deep recesses on either side of the rear of the boot  (they may well be handy for storage but the dog owner side of me reckoned they were leg breakers).

Had a look on https://www.automobiledimension.com/family-cars.php and they are close...

Tiguan  Allspace first followed by Kodiaq 7 Seater:

Height:  1674 / 1676  (Kodiaq 2 mm taller)

Width:  1839/1882  (Kodiaq 53 mm wider)

Length:  4701/4697 (Kodiaq 4 mm shorter)

Boot space - 5 seats in use:   745 (?) litres  /   720 litres   (Kodiaq 25 (?) litres less)   - note that many sites say 700 litres for the Tiguan Allspace which is 20 litres less than the Kodiaq.

Boot space - 7 seats in use:   215 litres  /   270 litres   (Kodiaq 55 litres more)

After seeing and driving both, the Kodiaq definitely appeared a bit bigger to me - the load space seemed wider and rear seat legroom was better. You'd get bigger kids in the 3rd row for sure.

For prospective buyers that are also golfers, both the Allspace and the Kodiaq will take a full set of golf clubs widthwise in the boot (without removing any clubs from the bag), leaving room for trolley etc (in 5 seat mode). The Tiguan and Karoq are NOT wide enough to pass the same test. Obviously you can play with seat positions and juggle clubs to squeeze lots of equipment into any of these cars, but if you are looking for a car that you can easily throw your clubs in the back of, both Allspace and Kodiaq pass the test.

FYI an Octavia also passes the test.
