Rear door protector keeps falling off

Featured Replies

The 1.4 Kodiaqs passenger side rear, door protector has started falling off, when opening or closing the door.

I’ve tried refitting it as per the manual and it then works ok for awhile, before either falling off, or not retracting properly.

Has anybody else had this happen?

Its booked in the new Slough Citygate Skoda dealers next Weds. Comment was we’ve had a few of the protectors playing up like this.

Both my passenger ones have pinged off

A member posted today that they went to a Main dealers and were told that advice notice was given from Skoda (so that would be a TPI) that it is

Not covered under warranty, Owners failings, fault or what ever. 'customer misuse'.  paraphrasing there.

I wonder you long they get away with that stance!

Crap design is crap designs so Fundamental Design, manufacturing or materials and possibly quality control failings or just Simply Clever cheap crap.

Our 1.4 Bear is in tomorrow, dealer seemed to know of the problem, ‘it will be a warranty claim’ was the comment.

If they try that user error crud at me they’ll get very short change.

Took car in today and the dealer finding was ‘the retaining clip is deformed. Obvious warranty issue. Parts ordered’ They also carried out a Skoda campaign recall 91R2 control unit update, critical 1.

I knew it was too good to last.

Simply Clever” - my arrse.

Snagged the RH rear door thingy this evening on my jacket and ping - wouldn’t retract.

Tried numerous times to remount it, compared with working one on LH side, but no joy.

It seems to click into place and looks ok, but just refuses to retract when the door closes.

So I had to pull it off and throw it in the boot. The dealer can have a go at its first service.

I’ll have another look in daylight. I think my strip is still in one piece.

Nothing appears to be broken. The outer strip can be re-attached to the slider, but the internal mechanism just doesn’t actuate the way it should as the door reaches the almost closed position.

So the bump strip remains on the outside as the door is about to be slammed shut.

So I had to remove it for good.

Will be interesting to hear the dealer diagnosis to repair the hidden mechanism.

Useless piece of Shiite.

Skoda must have spent a fortune in designing and building these 4  “simply clever” pieces of gimmicky nonsense.

Money that could’ve been spent more sensibly elsewhere.

The issue I experienced was very similar. They mechanism would not fully retract. I believe the plastic nut on the actuator on the door hinge side can be screwed in and out to tension the return spring. At least that is what my dealer did to try to remediate mine. It solved the issue for a day or two before the mechanism would not retract again. I considered pursuing remediation however the next step was to replace the mechanisms. The act of popping off 4 door trim cards to replace them concerned me more with possible damage/fit/rattles when putting it all back. I decided to remove and forget them for now. Appreciate Skoda should remediate and may pursue a fix at next service. For now with my kids potentially catching them and the potential for them to cause some damage or marks to the door frame I have chosen to remove.

It is true that the actuator near the doors hinges can be adjusted, which should determine at which point during the doors opening and closing sweep the protectors retract or eject.

But, get it wrong and I can imagine a situation where the protector gets wedged between the door and the body.

As with a lot of things, great when they work, a right royal pain when they don't.
