WLTP

The longer term storing of new vehicles in a field, at the docks, outside the factory, on an airfield in the UK isn't new.

I'm not sure where our 2016 MkIII Octavia Scout had been before we chose it off a list for a 2 year PCH, but it was available for an almost immediate delivery, complete with well rusty hubs This wasn't after a few winters, this was noticed shortly after delivery...

Thats nothing, its only on the surface. It can become like that after a wash, even on the discs. In order for that hard piece of metal to go dangerusly rusty is to be exposed on wet conditions for years.

xman, I  have told you a million times not to exaggerate.

fidelio, none as blind as those that will not see.

If renting a car for a few years and handing it back to the owner, VW finance or whoever then who cares how long between built and first registered,

but if buying a keeper, or a used car in 2022 then maybe some will give a thought to 2018/2019 and the first WLTP / RDE tested cars,

petrols with GPF's and 1.6TDI's that got SCR.

Sorry for poor pictures just snapped them.

First Registered Nov 2016 & built to order and delivered in less than 10 weeks, and this is the replacement discs and they have 10,000 miles covered, the first set at 12,000 miles on the back were worse than this, lets see how they are come next spring.

So you spend ££££ on a nice shiny new car, select the bling options ,if not already standard, shiny stylish alloy wheels, and then stand back and admire the rusty crusrty disc and hubs.

Poor steel is poor steel is cheap steel, decent protective zinc or other coat on hubs costs 0.02 euro per disc, standard on many aftermarket. Skoda OE discs known to corrode badly, laminate, dealers love em.

Well at least not as bad as the drums on the Fabia etc.

A GM corsa, ford fiesta drums look like Rolls quality next to them, its amazing what a coat of paint or plating correctly applied can do.

Lets hope they decide not to scrimp on paint or zinc plating elsewhere to save a couple of euros or three.

But they do, the rear Drums as fitted up to just a few years back on Fabia Mk2 and still on Up!MiiCitigo have ridiculous rust inhibiting, as in just enough to get them delivered and sold.

then look at exhaust hangers and various brackets under your car or others, even demonstrators / ex management cars.

You can not go building cars in this day and age to last for ever, if you were you would fit Stainless Steel Exhausts and other quality components.

As it is these days it is often Electrics / Software that kill cars & put them off the road & not corrosion.

Central European Car Manufacturers should understand European Weather, winters, salted roads and the environmental affect on metals when poorly

rust inhibited or coated.   Not just the budget range like Skoda / SEAT, the premium ones like VW & Audi get crap materials and coatings.

Rubbish components as well. but then they only do 2 or 3 year manufacturers warranties and longer needs buying.

Hey, I didn't want to go on to corroding calipers, suspension bits, mild steel hangers, bolts and nuts, rusty shocks and flawed springs, exhaust boxes peeling open.

Because someone might accuse me of moaning, especially Gaselle (who switched brand despite his praises)

Wear and tear obviously.

Me exaggerate?? I'll try not too ski..
