Where have the big units gone?

Featured Replies

My machine has been happily folding away for the last few weeks but in the last 4-5 days I've noticed it isnt being allocated big units anymore. I've not changed any settings and have even tried restarting the client.

It was managing fine before with BIG units that took days to complete, since being allocated smaller units my 24hr average has fallen and Mr Gwilo is gaining on me again. I'm now folding around one unit per day but getting less points per week than I was :(

Yup they do seem to have got smaller. I never did find out if you could make your client download a batch of WUs to work on for times when you're going to be away from an internet connection, either, which makes a big dent in your average when you can't upload results or download new WU's for a few days.

Me too. Looking at the ongoing projects, most of them score just 50 points odd, with some being 150 odd. Occasional ones of 400+ are around, but it took my XP2200+ about 6 days to do one, so it sucked on scoring.

It seems also the amount of RAM used has dropped. Before there used to be 100mb of ram used sometimes, but now its rare to see the fahcore task using more than 10mb.

True, jason, my current W/U is taking just 5mb RAM

Why would you WANT it to use 100Mb of your RAM? It's a CPU task.

Not sure Nick - Its one of those advanced settings where you can tell it to use more ram - I just remember the units that sucked up more ram, scored better and finished quicker. perhaps ram is a very slight partially factor in folding?
