Bolero Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hello, another question lol I'm thinking of buying the bolero radio for my 2008 vrs and was wondering will it be compatible? The car currently has the Stream radio with no mfsw or maxi dot. I understand that phone function wouldnt work as there maxi dot or would it? I don't really mind but I'm worried would the rear parking sensors and 6 disc changer work with the bolero? Just trying modernise the car a bit.

Thanks

Jack

Although the bolero is a nice head unit, the columbus is better and codes in easier then the bolero (both units need coding to the vehicle to work)

The bolero works just as well with out MFSW and Maxidot as the lower specs on the FL did not have these, the sytem it's self is a six disc autochanger so would make the one in the boot redundent, the phone button in mine just mute's the system, as i don't have the bluetooth module.

Once you code it in, it should work with the parking sensor's and if done right would show aircon settings as well.

that's great, is there much coding to be done for it to work? I was looking at bolero as its a considerably cheaper even though the Columbus is tempting too! I take it has to be coded into the ecu? is there much to this?

thanks

They need to be coded into the canbus 's main "gateway" or ECU (this control's all the electrical systems on the vehicle), which is seperate from the engine's ecu. You need some one who has VCDS to do it, as it can be done using any third party diagnostics.

You may also need a newer "gateway" unit as it may need newer firmware to work.

was looking and found another thread, in my case im going to need two modules for parking sensors and climate controls as well as everything else listed, and there costing more than radio at nearly 200£ just for them. So ill have to wait a while but im still going to look into what I need but I definitely not buying and aftermarket headunit!

thanks

Didn't have to do anything with my Bolero upgrade, just put it in and inputted the stereo code!

Do you have parking sensors and have the climate control display?

What model of car?

Look to the left in my profile. It's an L&K so it has everything. B)

Unless anything;s changed, the parking sensors and climate won't come up on it unless you do some complicated wiring. This was done by a few people quite some years ago and it was too much hassle for me, I just wanted a better stereo than the Audience I had. Columbus probably is cheaper now than it was but it's a ten year old car so I don't spend too much on it nowadays and there's not enough on that stereo to warrant me paying that much for one now.
