Soaking wet drivers footwell

Featured Replies

Hello there

I've got a 2013 fabia HTP, 45000 miles. I've recently noticed that the drivers side footwell, and nothing else, is soaked with water, really really soaked, if I press down on the carpet it comes up in little puddles. It's definitely water, I've tasted it and got a second opinion too, so it's not heater juice or anything. When I noticed it I blasted the door cracks with a pressure washer from the outside and I'm pretty sure the seals are all good. I've managed to dry it out a bit using a wet vac but I'm at a loss to where it's coming from. The stealership want £97 an hour to investigate and I'm not up for that. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Billy

In my experience this is either or both of these.

Open and look under the drivers door, there are 3 iirc, drain holes that have black plastic grommets, they get blocked and restrict drainage and the water builds up in the door until it overflows and leaks from the bottom of the door card.

You probably notice that when you open the door after heavy rain, water pours out of these drains. Somehow the design is such as the water builds up when the door is closed, and the water gathers at the forward end. Require a good poke, maybe even pulling out.

Second problem area I noticed was the windscreen seal, particularly the top edge. I've seen it pour in through the top headlining /roof light before. Resolved (not really fixed) by checking externally that the narrow channel at the top of the windscreen can drain at the side and not into the car, and then I taped over the channel with black electrical pvc tape, which seemed to do the trick. Despite the Heath Robinson approach , visually it's ok and is effective.

Hope this helps.

Use plenty of kitchen towel and press down to force up the water in the well into the towelling. There's thick damping material under the carpet that acts like a sponge. Drive around with heater directed to footwell until it dries, which will take days....

All the above.

& first check, open the drivers door of a Mk2 fabia.

Look at that seal on the door that goes to the cars roof that needs to seal.

Have you or an-other been leaning on it and is it a bit wonky?

Xman, I've had a look under the door for the drain holes, only 1 of the 3 acutally had grommets in, ive had a little poke and there was no blockage. If they've been removed, probably by a previous owner, would you reckon that's a sign that this has happened before?

Might not have had the grommets. Look at the other three doors to see. I don't think someone will remove all if one door filled up!

I think there was a thread regarding the MK 1 Fabia, whereby the drainage under the front windscreen scuttles gets blocked so you need to strip off the plastic scuttle cover and clean them will a long, thin flexible pokey-thing. Might be the same or similar issue.

I had a similar issue on a Yaris and had to remove the plastic inner sill trim, prise up the carpet, remove the underlay and soak up the excess water. I then let the underlay dry on my garden washing line prior to fitting again. Didn't find a reason for the water ingress but it didn't happen again and my daughter, who was using the car says she did park in an area of a very large, deep puddle.

It could simply have came up, through the floors drain holes!

Oh, and partially opened windows, particularly in stormy weather!
