Wasn't sure if this should be in the ICE section or here (so please forgive me if you think its in the wrong section).

 

I have the Karoq Edition model 4x4 2.0 SCR/TDI engine - it has the larger screen unit and the usual wireless charging etc. (not sure of the head unit model - standard fit in this model i assume - it has sat nav & I can connect via andriod auto etc).

 

My question is can i use the head unit to play videos via my mobile phone ?- Youtube etc for those moments we find ourselves just waiting in the car (staionary of course) whilst family members shop or generally mooch around whilst we patiently wait in carparks?

 

Natively neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto support video playback apps (such as YouTube etc) for auto safety reasons. I believe even where manufacturer's head units do, it disables once the car is in motion. In the back it's a different matter,  of course.

 

The Skoda  units supporting  AA/CP also support Mirrorlink, an older tech working on android only. AFAIK it simply mirrors whatever's  on the phone  screen to  the car screen. Worth a try, but i'd check the law first. The modern versions handover control to the  car. Mirrorlink doesn't, again AFAIK. 

Or stick a DVD in the CD / DVD player ... I know its not internet... but it may help the boredom.
