OBDII Boost gauge?

Featured Replies

I currently have a boost gauge, which runs off a Darkside EGR black pipe kit, but as I'm still running the original EGR in place currently and when it was fitted in place, the vac line slowly filled with oil, making its way to the gauge (After months, not days), I'm not sure I want to run it again from the EGR blank. I've seen some OBDII digital gauges dotted about online, but I've never seen one in person or known anyone running one.

Anyone here know much about them? How accurate are they compared to the normal mechanical vac gauges?
Does anyone use one?

Or, Is there somewhere else that I could run my current gauge from which doesn't get oil in the line?

I wouldn't be concerned about the oil, you could fill it up completely and it would still work as a gauge. You will always end up with oil in the lines as there is always oil in the intake and charge system.

An OBD gauge would be as accurate as the sensor in the car, whether this is as accurate as a mechanical gauge depends on the quality of gauge you have and if/when it has been calibrated but I'm sure it will be close enough for a boost gauge

Any reading from a digital gauge taken from the OBD port would also be subject to more lag than a mechanical gauge but it may not matter.

An OBD gauge may not be suitable because the delay is quite significant. Lets say for example, every 1/3 second. When you're flooring it the polling rate might not be good enough to keep up with rapid acceleration.

A speedo would be a more suitable application for OBD polling
