Slow puncture resolved - fantastic service!

Featured Replies

So, TPMS tells me 4 weeks ago "tyre pressure loss OSF".  4-5mm left on tyre. #!%&!  I guess you all know how that feels!

Check the pressure, down to 29PSI from 35.  Checked the tyre carefully, no obvious nail or other intrusion.

Pump back up to 35, reset TPMS and carry on as normal.

Today TPMS warns again as above.  Groans.  Check tyre again, really carefully.  No obvious damage.  Check pressure - 28.

So, pump back up to 35 and head to Kwik Fit.  Wait for an hour, despite having called ahead to book in, and eventually one of the lads looks at the car.  Wheel off, no obvious damage or nail etc.  He then sprays the tyre with water or some other solution and spends fifteen mins hunting for a leak without success.  Just as I think it is going to be back to square one, heading off with no solution, he spots a tiny bubble, thankfully, near the centre of the tread. Throughout we have been talking cars and he has been really interested in the vRS, saying how well put together they are and well thought of etc, etc.... (he has a Merc SLK and absolutely loves it!)

Anyway, tyre repairable thankfully. The problem was a tiny piece of metal, very similar to the top part of a staple.  Tyre sorted and balanced, all good.  So, I approach the lad in question with his boss, and ask how much I owe them.......

Reply, "Mate, no problem, don't worry about it, happy to help."  I was genuinely surprised.  Saturday pm, busy times, lads obviously knackered, and they are prepared to do 45 mins work for nowt (okay, they are probably salaried and it won't make any difference to them but even so!) Massively fair play.

Obviously gave the lad in question a decent tip, but just thought I'd share a good news motoring story.

The Kwik Fit in question, Filton, on the Gloucester Road, NW Bristol.  Chapeau chaps!

Got wheel balancing from Kwik Fit for free years ago. Saying that I still use other tyre garages in preference to going to them. Paid £6 for a puncture repair a few weeks ago at my local garage, I think Kwik Fit charge about £25!

I had some metal dust cap covers which had corroded onto the the valve threads. Kwik Fit in South Norwood managed to get them off & replace them with plastic ones FOC

What a giveaway! So, you don't regularly check your tyre pressures?:D

About once a month usually.

Either way, TPMS does help out.
