What part to replace first

Featured Replies

Hi All,

So I bought my first Skoda (2007 2.0TDI Octavia 2 Estate) and while it is in great condition (second owner) and the first owner has serviced it very well, I'm at a loss of what I should probably replace first.  It doesn't have a service book, likely the first owner lost it but I know it has had an oil change in February (5W30) and all filters changed with it.  The DSG is smooth and there is no evidence of clutch trouble (downshifts and upshifts beautifully) except when I'm too quick from a stop..  still getting used to it.  So while I don't know when the fluid was changed, likely it's still good for now.

I was thinking the timing belt and water pump set should be the first thing to replace (for peace of mind)?

That would be a sensible choice if you dont know when it was last done likewise brake fluid if it is of unknown age.

When I got mine I had the service book and couldn't see any sign of the DSG or cambelt ever having been done, so for peace of mind I did pretty much everything!

Engine oil + filter, DSG oil + filter, fuel filter, air filter, pollen filter, cambelt + waterpump, and cleaned the turbo with Mr muscle.

I’d get the belt and pump done for peace of mind.

Depending on what dsg box you’ve got it might be worth while asking the local dealer if the car has been back to Skoda to get the oil in the gearbox changed.

The other filters would be a good idea, I'll get those changed.

The DSG is the wet DSG 6spd (2007).  I'll give a visit, as long as it was done in the last 3/4 years it's probably still good for another 2.  Otherwise, it'll be time for a change.
