FullLED headlights too low

Featured Replies

I believe there are types of headlights fitted to the kodiaq.....

1. Plain halogen

2. Full LED

3. Adaptive led dynamic headlights.

Am I correct in thinking that the full led headlights fitted to the scout should have three automatic positions.
Low for urban
Mid height for a and b roads
Fairly high for dual carriageway speeds.

At the minute when they come on they motor up and down then settle at an acceptable angle to give good light for town driving. That's all fine until I hit the open road when I struggle with enough light range for 60mph... About 3 to 4 car lengths. When entering back into town, they appear lower than when I set off.

Went back to dealer last week for some software updates (softer boot closing and a few other bits) and they said no fault stored.

I guess the system is not happy and defaulting to the lowest setting, but surely this would store a fault?

Welcome to (Skoda`s too low headlights) club!

All today`s models (Superb 2 and 3, Octavias etc) suffer from that.

Just go to some garage and let them align the angle. LEDs do not have auto levelling system, I quess, so it should be an easy job.

The LED headlights on the Kodiaq are self-levelling.

You'd know if they were in safe mode, they almost drop to the floor. Or at least they do on the Octavia and Superb.

If they are doing their dance routine on start-up then they're working normally.

The further the light is projected in front of the car, the more likely you'll dazzle other road users, so the limitations in terms of how much further up the road can be effectively illuminated hasn't changed much over the years.

Ok, then it needs some more work, but still doable.

I had my xenons aligned. Before alignment the low beam was only about 35 meters long.

Way too risky to drive full (90 kmh) speed at night. You were driving just ahead of your visibiltity.

Now it has appr. 90 meters beam.

Confirm, safe mode has about 4 meters of low (and high) beam.

You would expect the LED's still have an element of manual adjustment to them, purely from a replacement or accident repair perspective.

With the bi-xenon headlights they first had to be placed into 'adjustment mode' using VCDS (or equivalent) to prevent them from being over-adjusted beyond the movement of the mechanism and thus being damaged. Not sure if this applies to the current LED set-up though.

I thought high beam is a separate lens and not motor controlled?

It is both. Main beam function has it's own LED / lens, but also utilises the regular dipped headlight LED / lens too...

Pay particular attention to the video at 1.55 minutes.

When the flash function is demonstrated you can see the separate main beam LED illuminate, but also the dipped headlight LED rises up to maximise light projection at the same time.

Not so sure, but when my levelling sensor failed, I remember I had to drive half a night in complete darkness, only few meters lighted in front of the car.

That is safe mode. When the sensor failed the headlight was unable to determine the correct position and therefore automatically drops to the lowest possible setting to avoid dazzling other road users.

Safer for the other road users, but not so safe for the driver I guess.

Yes, that`s what I am talking about. Safe mode - complete darkness, low or high beam.

I think high beam is fixed, if conditions allow (i.e. the roads are empty) you should still be able to use high beam, even if the dipped beam is in safe mode and pointing to the floor.

On mine there are two positions on the headlight arm.

If I push it only a short distance automatic headlight adjust comes on and a small symbol lights up in the bottom of the Spedo cluster.

If I push it further then main beam comes on and a blue light appears on the speed dial. To turn of main beam pull the arm towards you.
