'Driving other cars' insurance - void if you drive buses?!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just wanted to check if anyone else had had any experience of this. I recently rang admiral, my insurer, to ask a few questions regarding remapping my car. For some reason, the 'Driving other cars' policy came up - I will be 25 soon and am looking forward to the convenience of having it to borrow other people's cars - However, the guy on the phone said he wasn't sure about this, but the fact that I work as a bus driver might mean I'm not able to get DOC on my policy (a free addition for any insured driver over 25yo)

If anyone else has got any experience of this with any other company, be it with company cars or work vehicles (he did mention these as well) I'd appreciate tips! One of the reasons I renewed my insurance with them was because they offer DOC (i'm aware most insurers do, but still) but they never said it might not be available depending on certain jobs!

cheers

Since the Guy on the phone was not sure, ask the Broker / Underwriter in writing because they should know and be sure about you as their customer & policy holder

and send you the Terms & Conditions & Schedule.

What does it say in the Policy you have?

I think its usually only offered if you are over a certain age have at least 3 or so years no claims and its a fully comp insurance. Even then it seems to be at underwriters discretion so other things may block it, where you live etc. Or maybe related to premium. Insurance is very individual, no set rules.

hmm fair enough! thanks for the replies already

My current policy doesn't have it on since I'm only 24, but I was told I would be able to get it on turning 25, just involving paying the admin fee. I guess I'll see what happens.
