Trip computer

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me if there's anything wrong with my trip computer.

The functions when you click through don't seem to go in order as explained in the car's manual.

Also:

On memory 1

In relation to mpg there is one screen which seems to show the mpg for the trip so far (c33 for my trip out today) and then the next screen either has -----mpg showing or crazy numbers like 115mpg down to 20mpg in the space of a few seconds (whilst driving along at around 30-40mph).

which is current mpg and which is meant to be average mpg.

On memory 2

The same as the above applies except instead of 33mpg for the first one the figure is lower and for the second ----mpg it seems to be always this figure.

Thanks

I find mine confusing too and not very helpful. The one that keeps changing is what the car is doing right then, so when I poodle around town it sometimes tells me I'm getting 19 mpg. Out on the M23 it can be high forties! The other reading I think is the true average since last reset.

It's similar to the indicator of miles left in the tank - when I set out on a long cruise it often goes steadily up for a while before it starts to go down - just showing more economical use of fuel. So I can start a trip with say 300 miles in the tank and after a few miles it decides I've got 350 miles in the tank.

I preferred my old Nissan which, so long as not reset, could show you the fuel consumption and average speed over the whole life of the car to date.

"I preferred my old Nissan which, so long as not reset, could show you the fuel consumption and average speed over the whole life of the car to date."

thats what memory 2 does !!

memory 1 resets after the ignition has been off for about an hour, but its all explained in the handbook and its not rocket science.

That's because it is an average from when the computor was last reset.

No, it isn't rocket science, but memory 2 resets to zero at 100 hours or 10,000 km approx, so it isn't ever a car's life total. It just collates journeys up to that point.
