Just an update.

Eventually we got a fully functioning spare key.

We have a 3 button key - PN 1J0959753DA. I bought one on Amazon. This is an Immo III, ID 48 chip key. On this fob the immobilizer is still in a separate compartment and not part of the computer chip as on newer models.

There are 3 parts to a new key: the blade, the central locking part and the immobilizer part.

The PN refers to the central locking part. The adaptation is fairly easy and straight forward and I followed one described on youtube.

Getting the blade cut was £20 at our local lock smith.

Now I thought I could just use my VCDS to code the immobilzer, but I did not have the pin code / SKC for STG 17 dashboard or STG 25 immobilzer. I decided to try a mobile locksmith who claimed that he could code the key into the car, but could not even get access with his computer.

Next we went to Skoda who after an hour also gave up and offered to call a "specialist" in, which would be £75 for an hour and then £90 for every further.

I then went to a car locksmith and coding expert who recodes dashboards on a workbench where all keys have been lost..... His gadgets detected a pin code but the car did not seem to like it and after an hour he gave up too. His advice was to clone the existing immobilizer chip. I tried a local lock smith and he said that he could probably do it and he was right.

The spare key cost about £65 which is a fair bit cheaper than a Skoda key but then they seemed to have problems coding their own cars anyway.
