Rear washer jet Mk I estate (2002)

Featured Replies

Model 1.9 TDI Elegance (2002) The rear door (estate) does not have an internal trim panel behind which are the back of the clips holding the brake light unit in place. On this model it is solid with only a small rubber grommet visible on the interior panel at the top. The cable and washer pipe enter at the top left hand side.

The question is - How do i remove the high level brake light cluster that contains the rear washer jet?

There are no visible clips or screws on the outside of the brake cluster so assume it is retained with internal clips - does anyone know how much pressure to exert is it sealed or is there a trick to removing the unit.

Any help appreciated, as i though this would be an easy fix!

Rob

You have to remove the plastic trim at the top of the tailgate (on the inside). Then you will see 3 plastic clips that holds the brake light in. The washer jet is clipped into the light once removed. Mine is a 2002 Elegance estate.

Thanks for getting back to me but the there is no plastic trim at the top of the tailgate, it's simply a smooth panel.

I don't understand why this is - other sources say that the MK I has a trim panel as well but mine doesn't !

Huge apologies - i have just realised where the trim panel is !!

I have been looking at the area above the panel, having the door open messed up my spacial awareness upside down being upside up!

Thank you - will now follow your excellent advise and replace.

Rob

I've got a leaky rear washer, so many thanks from me too!
