Rear piston stuck

Featured Replies

Was trying to wind the rear piston back in and it makes about 6 revolutions then just becomes so tight it wont turn any more. Ive removed the brake fluid cap in the engine bay and using a winding tool.

If anyone has any ideas id appreciate it.

Ive checked other posts but most seem to be about the piston turning but not winding in, which isnt an issue

Does it look like it is flush and perhaps that is a far as it is supposed to wind in?

Nah not even close. Theres about 75% of the piston protruding still at least

.

Sounds like it has seized.

Is the handbrake off and caliper lever fully down? The cap on the brake reservoir should be loosened off too. Are you winding the correct direction and using a tool which pushes in as it winds?

Carefully pump out the piston again with the foot brake taking care not to go too far. Then undo the brake nipple and try winding in again.

(Attaching a bleed kit to catch the fluid if you have one to stop fluid spilling all over the floor).

Repeat a couple of times to get fresh fluid in and hopefully it will free it up. You need to close the bleed nipple to pump out of course and keep an eye on fluid level in the reservoir, topping up if necessary.

Thanks. Cap is off the res already and yeah the tool pushes as it winds. But ill give the rest a go.

I have conpletely removed the piston and its in good condition. Just doesnt want to go more than a quarter the way back in again
