Help 1.4 tsi (caxa) timing chain

Featured Replies

Help,  looking for a bit of collective wisdom here.  I've got 1.4tsi octavia MK2,  62 plate.  Handbook tells me it's a caxa engine which is cam chain, not belt. It's  just coming up to 60,000 miles. I've  had it 2 years. Question is, does the chain ever need to be changed? Or the tensioner? Or is it fitted for life of the engine?

I couldn't  find a definitive  answer via the search...

Thanks!

Fitted for life.

Should be good for another 6 years / 60,000 miles at least.

Maybe do not use long life oil even if doing fixed servicing, if you do not already go to VW502 so 5w 40 FS rather than VW 504 / 507  5w 30 FS Long Life.

Has it had new Spark Plugs and maybe could do with another set in the next year or so.

That's great,  thanks.  I have it on fixed annual servicing as I do not many miles and didn't fancy leaving it 2 years between service. Old  habits die hard I guess! Spark plugs  changed last year

Have same engine and from new (2009) i used to change oil every 10k (km) - still not seem any problem.

Just when i leave car unsued at all for over 2-3 days i could hear a little the rattle when starting up, obviously caused by oil sitting down and drain chain, but in every day use not any related issue.

Still no any plugs changed..

Thanks @AkisVH - how many km do you have on the car now?

Could say not much, 140K.

I also have a Octavia 1.4 TSI CAXA engine but not sure when I need to change the timing chain. I guess the best numbers I can have is from you.

Thanks!

Just in case anyone is interested, my 2010 Mk2 Octavia 1.4 Tsi is  now over 80,000 miles and 13 years without changing the chain.
