Skoda Octavia ESC + Gearbox fault error

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have recently bought (used) Skoda Octavia A7 2014 model. For past few days I am getting ESC + Gearbox error and car engine doesn't start. I have also noticed that once I turn on the ignition, all lights come up except "Glow plug/diesel pre-heat warning" light and then I get the ESC and gearbox fault. After around 5-7 minutes of turning the ignition off and on, the glow plug/diesel pre-heat warning light show up along with all and then car starts with no issue.

The problem is, this happens if the car in parked for at least couple of hours, so when I take to the garage, garage folks cant check it because the car starts at first go.

I was wondering if anyone has encountered the same issue and help me out with this problem, as its very annoying sitting in the car and keep turning on and off the ignition.

TIA

Cheers,

Amit

Check the battery, just for safe mesure? Any codes stored?

Yes that is my safest bet. I checked once with Skoda dealer, he said he needs to take the gearbox out and check, which I didn't find convincing. Recently I also noticed, orange engine light is continuously on. When I took it to another dealer (Bosch) he said that my car battery is having issues and it is sending too many fault codes.

I have booked an appointment with the dealer to get it checked.

Find one with a VCDS or OBD11 interface to at least print out error codes.

Update: So I took my car to the workshop yesterday got it scanned and nothing found :worried:

The workshop guy just told me that if I get this error again he will send his guy to quickly scan it. I am waiting for the error, once I see it, I will call the guy to get is scanned.

Has anyone tried charging the car battery with a smart charger?

As above I would do a load test to see what the battery is doing when started etc. A battery may show 12v with no load applied.  But when you try and start the car can quickly drop the voltage.

I put factory charger it’s same

Please I need help some one help me

Get the car scanned for fault codes with VCDS or similar. Otherwise it could be a number of issues with similar symptoms...

Thank you very much

(( Diagnostic on intermittent none start

. Engine RCU main ignition relay

Labour to fit. ))

I fix it my Skoda Octavia in the garage this is the problem

You have to remember that when battery levels fall too low or the battery is just not capable of supplying the required voltage, all kind of supurious errors are going to crop up.  The fact that a gearbox fault and an ESC fault crop up together are random.  The two aren't really interlinked (unless you have a DSG).  Replace the battery, get it coded in as appropriate and if the fault continues, then you probably have that fault.  The cold kills batteries and the fact that folk aren't driving around is causing already low batteries to die completely.
