Parking/Side Lights not working.

Featured Replies

Now the dark nights are here I have noticed the fornt and rear Parking/Side lights are not working.

The problem is that when I select the side lights on, the front and rear lights do not come on, with the ignition off or with the ignition on.

If I turn the ignition on and select the head lights on, the front, rear side lights, and head lights, come on as expected, so I do have a full complement of lights for driving at night.

The front and rear fog lights work correctly, interior lights are working as well.

I have checked the light switch with another one and I get the same results, so the switch is OK. Checking the back of the switch connector I don't have any power on any of the connector terminals until I turn the ignition on.

I assume there should be power to the light switch connector all the time to allow the Parking/Side lights to work irrespective of ignition on/off.

So, I am assuming that there is a fuse somewhere that should allow power to the light switch all the time and that it has blown, but I have been unable to find it due to the lack of a correct fuse layout diagram for my car.

Does anyone know which fuse I should be looking at, or is this problem due to some other mysterious wiring problem?

The Front and rear 'Parking Lights' are one Sidelight to the Front and one to the rear when you put down the indicator stalk and the ignition is off.

ie For Parking. Unlit Streets or out of towns etc.

Does that work?   Lights off, key out of the ignition and indicator stalk to the up or down position.

So that you have 'Parking Lights'.

Sidelight / Position lights, 2 front, 2 rear and registration lights are not 'Parking Lights'.

Maybe someone will be along that can be of help with the Sidelights not working from the light switch.

Thanks Offski, I didn't realise that the parking lights worked that way, I will try them later.

Hopefully, that is independant of the side lights are not working due to the appearant lack of power.

Had my Roomster for 5 years and decided to fully read the Owner's Handbook from cover to cover and last week discovered the parking light feature. I have yet to try it.

Never wondered what the 'P' meant on the indicator stalk?

No, I have not studied the graphics on the control stalks and also I have never had to use the parking lights feature. You live and learn.

Some lived, wanted to pass their driving test so read the Highway code and know about 'Parking Lights' in the UK, even remember the ones that plugged into a cigarette lighter socket and then went on the side window with a white lense to the front and red to the rear.

AAHH. The days of 6V batteries and starting handles

In the 1960's and 70's still.   Well in Scotland anyway...

Update .....

The parking lights do work as detailed by Offski, using the indicator stalk. No suprise there then.  :o

Back to the side lights not working .... I started to check each of the fuses, by pulling them out and checking to see if they were OK. Doing this I discovered that the 5A fuse in slot 35 was blown. Replacing this fuse has made the side lights spring into life, so all is good again.  The fuse is very helpfully described as "Power supply of ignition block" !!! Nothing to do with lighting then  :wall:
