Service intervals for 1.2 TSI

Featured Replies

Hi all

So the Spaceback has it's 4th service coming up in December, and it's going to be a big one.

I wanted to check a few things though:

1) What is the replacement interval for the spark plugs?

2) What is the replacement interval (if there even is one) for the gear box oil?

3) What is the replacement interval (if there even is one) for the coolant?

If anyone knows, would really appreciate a steer on this. As sparks for the Rapid seem to be quite expensive, happy to leave them if they are not due to be replaced yet.

Thanks

Chris

1. 40,000 miles (cambelt engine)

60,000 miles (older camchain engine)

2. Lifetime

3. Lifetime

Plugs in camchain engine are iridium/platinum, newer cambelt engine are platinum/platinum (tip/ground electrode)

Thanks xman. I'm on the chain engine (it's one of the very first Spacebacks), but also mindful it'll be 5 years old (though still under 40,000 miles) come service time in December. Think I'll change them anyway (and thanks for the info on the iridium/platinum spec)

Will leave the gearbox and coolant alone.

Photos of 3 spark plugs (can't find the 4th photo) taken out of Fabia CBZA engine at 85630 miles. Original never changed. These are the OE NGK plugs as supplied with the car new. 2 are perfect, the 3rd and 4th (similar to 3rd) has a softly worn ground electrode. The one shown had lost its platinum disc on the ground electrode. But still ran perfectly.

Cheapest place I found is Opieoils. If selecting the OE NGK make sure to select the pack of 4 and not 4x1 as it's a fair bit cheaper (to find on their clunky website, click on the spark plug description and different quantity packs then shown). Use BRISKODA discount code 10% off. Sometimes have better promotions.

A set of NGK IZFR6P7 came in about £45, the alternative BOSCH Iridium Spark Plug 0242240665 at about £26 for 4, going to try them next time. Here's what they look like, the platinum is inset into the ground electrode unlike the NGK which is a welded add on disc
