Reverse camera problem

Featured Replies

Hi all. I recently installed an Erisin Android 7 head unit. I have also added a reversing camera.  This is where my issues started.

I have it wired into the head unit as follows:-

1. Yellow RCA connector from camera into back of head unit.

2, the the cable with the yellow RCA plug has a red wire in it also. (A short length out of each end of this cable with the yellow RCA)

So, at the head unit end, I have connected this to a wire form the back of the head unit which is 12v when I select reverse (it's marked up for a reverse camera), at the camera end it is connected to the camera power posticie input.

3, finally I have a wire from the negative of the camera down to an earth post in the boot.

It sort of works ok. But once my car has been running for maybe 30 mins, I get the issue as shown in this short video clip.

Hopefully you can hear when I select reverse and see what happens on the screen:-

Would greatly appreciate some help on this as I have had the tailgate trim off a couple of times now and it's becoming a pain. Lol

Hi,

to try to diagnose where the problem lies can you connect a permanant 12v to the power lead to the camera and see if it stays on then.

do you have anything you could output video from that you could connect to the camera input to prove if it is the camera?

Failing that give me a PM and if you want to pop down to me I will try to sort it as I have all the bits needed to do some Diagnostics.

So, before the camera was anywhere near installed in my car, i connected it up to a 12v leisure battery which i use for astronomy purposes, i also connected it to an input of my TV, it worked fine, i had it on for a good few minutes and nothing like what can be seen in the video manifested itself. It seems to occur if the car has been used for a while, then you go to park up for example. Maybe after 30 minutes or so. One thing I did wonder is this. The camera itself has four tiny led’s, which I didn’t like or felt where. Needed. So i popped a blob of black nail varnish over them to block them. I wonder if the heat from the led’s has no where to go now i ave done this??? I will uncover the LED’s first and see how it goes from there. Thanks for the offer of diagnostic though, much appreciated.

the easy thing to do is find a small tv (handheld if you can ) with RCA video in and connect it to that if you dont get any signal then its your wiring and you can eliminate the head unit,
