Citigo engine block rear oil plug

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Skoda Citigo that has serious oil leak at the back of the engine.  When looking there seems to be a plug missing on the lower part of the block on the left hand side when viewed from the front. What is the plug used for? Would it have been removed/loosened during a service with cam belt change.  Note: the plug is not the sump drain plug but actually in the block above the sump.

Any info much appreciated.

This is where the locking pin (T10340) is fitted to stop the crankshaft moving when changing the cambelt as shown below:

The morons who did the work have not refitted the sealing bolt back in place - you will be losing a fair bit of oil through that hole.

Time to return the car to them I think...

The perils of doing unnecessary work (VW recommend cambelt inspection at 165k miles with replacement if necessary) - the mechanic has introduced a fault on a motor with nothing previously wrong and the customer has paid extra for it.

As above via Eltezz, the crank location pin fits here once the plug is removed.  The pin would have to be removed for the engine to run, but it appears the plug either wasn't refitted of wasn't secured correctly.

Depending on the amount of oil loss, the engine could have suffered oil starvation.

You will need to involve Skoda UK, DON'T complain at the Dealer as they will fob you off.

And you'll be wanting a full refund for the shoddy work carried out.
