Tyres and Sat nav update

Featured Replies

Greetings

We have just acquired a Superb Estate 2012 170bhp 4x4 , and we will need a couple of new tyres soon, I was looking to change to Goodyear efficient 225 40 18 but the speed rating is lower so should I consider the Eagle F1, also the Sat Nav keeps saying off road on different part on new roads ,is it possible to update this

The only other thing is lack of DAB radio, if I change the whole unit for a Columbus dab unit will it just plug in and work

Thanks

The Eagle F1 Asymmetric has the same wet weather rating (A) as the Efficient Grip Performance, worse economy rating (C vs B ) and is quieter (67 vs 69 dB). If you can stretch your budget, the Michelin CrossClimate is getting a lot of good reviews, and offers all-weather capability which might be useful, especially on the 4x4 model.

Satnav can be updated, though a dealer will probably tell you that you can't. V15 is the current map version for Western Europe: take a poke in the classifieds here and you might find someone selling a DVD, or that has one to loan you.

The facelifted Superb 2 got a DAB version of the Columbus which should fit in, but you will probably need to add a DAB antenna, plus it will need coding to your car with a diagnostic tool.

I have a set of winter tyres and alloys which the guy purchased for a trip to Switzerland but didn't go came with the car, I run the Goodyear efficient on my Mondeo ST diesel which has a few mods so I know these are excellent and with all the best will in the world the superb isn't as quick so don't know why the Y rated as opposed to W speed rating

Is the coding of a new unit costly

Thanks for info

A dealer will probably charge you an hours labour for coding.

A local member with VCDS might do it for beer money or even free. Just make sure the new unit has a code it with, it's worth checking with @Rustynuts as he normally has a few units in stock.

I've posted the full set of type approved wheel and tyre sizes for the Superb in the post below. 92V is also approved, so you would probably be ok with 92W if you want to stick with a tyre that you know.
