Front hub info

Featured Replies

New on the forum and new to skoda ownership.

I have a skoda fabia estate 1.4 TDI 75 bhp on an 04 its starting to get front N/S wheel bearing noise, i do not have a press or tooling to remove and replace the bearing  but thought about buying a used hub carrier and fitting that as a stop gap until i can get new bearing in my existing Hub/ Hubs.

So my question is are there any differences in hub splines size etc between models or will any petrol or diesel hub assembly interchange or do i need hub specifically for 1.4 tdi. ?

I think there are 3 basic variants, one for cars without power steering, which you'll struggle to find I think, one for the higher powered cars like the vRS and the 2.0 petrol (because of the bigger brakes/different attachment), then one for every other Fabia. See parts 7 and 7A on this page, ignore the first two 7s and the 7As, you'll want the 6Q0407255AC part number I think.

There's one on ebay at a reasonable price that claims to have been removed from a 40k mile 2011 car, might be a good bet?

No problem; please let us know how you get on.

One check I would advise before buying anything is to try to confirm that it is indeed the nearside that has the problem. I've been down the path of replacing the wrong one on a past car, and it's expensive as well as very annoying.

Top tip for diagnosis from expert member @Tech1e is to Jack up each side and spin the wheel by hand while putting your other hand on the spring. I haven't personally tried it, but apparently roughness in the bearing is very noticeable/amplified in the spring even if not audible at such low speed.
