Coolant contamination and pressure build up

Featured Replies

Hi

We are working on a superb 2lt TDI 2016. Coolant was found to be contaminated and a flush was recommended. On carrying out flush, pressure build up was noticed in expansion tank and also block test carried out which showed exhaust gases getting into coolant. EGR cooler removed and tested but this seems ok. I guess head gasket issue. Has anyone else had similar issues? Coolant seems to go a strange colour and when I say pressure in system, I mean coolant flowing out of resivour when cap removed!

Sounds like head gasket but

I've read a couple of threads where some kind of gel pouch left in the expansion tank splits and contaminates the coolant.

Ok thanks for input! I can understand what you are saying about coolant contamination. I guess the fact I have exhaust gases in coolant probably means head gasket. The vehicle does not overheat and heaters work fine etc just lots of pressure in system probably from exhaust gases building up

Quick update vehicle now all ok. Head gasket replaced, head sent away for pressure test but ok. Water pump found to have heat marks on impeller so vehicle must have gotten quite hot at some point
