DSG weirdness

Featured Replies

My DSG gearbox keeps holding a too-high gear.  It will engage all gears on manual and if I slip it into N and then back to D it will usually move up to the right gear.  It seems worse when it is wet but I wonder if this can be the wheel sensors if fiddling with the gear lever alters it.  I have no dash warning lights.

When you say holding too high gear, you mean it doesn't up shift from say 3rd to 4th unless you do it manually?

I had a very similar problem when the wiring to one of my abs sensors was corroded.

It would send iffy speed readings meaning the gearbox didn't really know what speed the car was doing.

It didn't throw any warning lights up until the corrosion got so bad that it threw an esp light.

As soon as the light came on, the gearbox was back to normal as I assumed it then ignored the readings from that sensor.

Yes, that is it exactly.  It will hold 3rd or more usually 4th.  Can I just disconnect the sensor and see what happens?  If so how do you disconnect it? Am guessing it is a rear wheel.

Welcome.

So what engine do you have and what DSG, 6 speed wet or 7 speed twin dry clutch?

How many miles covered and what servicing or maintenance has the DSG had?

6 speed.  Routine servicing whatever that is.

156000 miles

Has the DSG had an Oil change since 116,000 miles?,

because Regular Servicing or Main Dealer Servicing does not automatically mean the DSG gets the Service  / oil change carried out.
